<image:title>n front of the world's largest trade fair for CO2 storage, Greenpeace activists are protesting against plans to inject climate-damaging carbon dioxide into the North Sea floor with an oversized, inflatable CO2 cloud. A 5 x 22-metre banner with the demand “Avoid CO2 instead of hiding it” was stretched across the entrance to Messe Hamburg by climbers, with a comic bomb depicted on it symbolizing the risk of the plans supported by business and politics. According to the organizers, the world's largest conference and trade fair for carbon capture, storage and use will take place over two days at the exhibition grounds.</image:title>

They are protesting against the planned deep-sea mining in Norway. In April 2024, the Norwegian government announced its decision to open up a large area of its continental shelf in the Norwegian and Greenland seas to deep-sea mining. The Greenpeace report published at the same time, entitled ‘Gambling with the Deep Sea - Those betting on mining the Arctic’, which sheds light on the political and economic background to deep-sea mining, is officially handed over to the Norwegian embassy.</image:title>

The 18 climate activists from Germany and the Netherlands have anchored three floating platforms, while other activists in inflatable boats and kayaks are demonstrating for the protection of the Wadden Sea. <image:title>Fridays for Future, Greenpeace and others are demonstrating against the climate-damaging extraction of fossil natural gas. The Dutch energy company One Dyas wants to exploit the N-05A natural gas field. The planned site for the platform is located 500 metres behind the German border on Dutch territory between the islands of Schiermonnikoog and Borkum. The Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site is located in the immediate vicinity. Close to the drilling site and along the cable route planned for its power supply are unique rocky reefs worthy of protection, which Greenpeace scientifically documented for the first time in 2023. On 7 August, the Oldenburg Administrative Court upheld the appeal by Deutsche Umwelthilfe and thus temporarily halted the laying of the undersea cable.

<image:title>The destroyed Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, nearly 8 years after the accident. The nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant continues. Nearly 1 million tons of highly contaminated water is contained in storage tanks on the site, increasing by over 4000 tons each month. The government, nuclear regulator and the IAEA all support discharging this water into the Pacific. However, the communities along the Fukushima coast, including fishery associations have made their opposition to any planned discharge of this contaminated water.
TEPCO has been admitting that more than 80 percent of the nearly 1 million tons of contaminated water contains radioactive materials – such as strontium - many tens to thousands of times above the legal limit for discharge. Its processing water processing technology ALPS has failed. Strontium is one of the most hazardous radioactive materials concentrating in the human bone and increasing the risks of cancer., The nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant </image:title>
