For Germany, the authors mostly used an analysis of research findings from a project of the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF 2006), Safety research and monitoring for Bt maize cultivation 2001-2004
, the results of which have only been published in part. The studies investigated MON810 and another type of GM maize (Bt 176) that is no longer being cultivated.
The latest findings and the list of open questions clearly show that approval for commercial cultivation of the GM maize was granted prematurely and contradicts the precautionary principle that is part of EU legislation. The EU’s approval of the GM maize therefore must be withdrawn.
