Energy Campaigner – Technical Expert on Coal

Greenpeace is a global, non-violent campaigning and mobilizing organization that acts to protect and conserve the environment. Greenpeace in Central and Eastern Europe (GP CEE), headquartered in Vienna/Austria, employs more than 180 employees in 8 countries in the region. We are looking for an Energy Campaigner – Technical Expert on Coal (40hrs/week; based in CEE – applications to jobs.si@greenpeace.org).

Your responsibilities and competencies:

  • Analyse technical parameters of coal power plants including analysis of air pollutant emissions data
  • Monitor the development of the energy sector in CEE specifically and the EU, including planned investments and analysis of their financial and technical aspects
  • Be aware of the changing policy environment on emissions, clean air and water, and the EU policy-making process and apply this understanding to national contexts in CEE and beyond
  • Have a good understanding of different environmental impacts from coal power plants
  • Deploy analytical skills, especially the ability to analyse numerical, financial and technical data on the energy stage
  • Being able to synthesize and draw conclusions and present them in a clear and concise form (ie briefings, presentations…)
  • Enjoy networking and presenting to different audiences, such as industry analysts and journalists
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the role that science, politics, economics, industry, media and social change play in influencing the energy markets and protecting the climate and air quality
  • Be reasonably fluent in English (plus another languages) and willingness to travel
  • Work with an EU-level Greenpeace project team, but also advise some national Greenpeace energy teams and partner organisations
